It’s been 17 years since Eminem won an Oscar for his iconic song “Lose Yourself,” and this year, Slim Shady surprised the Academy Awards 2020 audience with a performance of the song.
Barbra Streisand, who presented the award to co-writer Luis Resto due to Eminem’s absence in 2003 — revealed she voted for him to take home the trophy.
“Eminem, I had voted for your song too! Was really looking forward to handing you the award. Next time! 😜.” – Streisand, 77, responded to Eminem’s post about the Oscars.
After the appearance, Em wrote: “Look, if you had another shot, another opportunity… Thanks for having me The Academy. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here.”
When asked by Variety magazine if he was disappointed he did not receive his award in person, he said: “I do not know that I was disappointed, I was blown back by the fact that I won. I do not even think I understood back then that you could get an Oscar for a song, and I remember being kinda confused about why I was even up for one, because as a kid with the Oscars, it was like a vacuum.”
