‘Merriam-Webster’ officially adds Eminem’s definition of “Stan” to its dictionary

Merriam-Webster has announced today that it has officially added “stan” to its dictionary as both a noun and a verb. It defines the term as “an extremely or excessively enthusiastic and devoted fan,” and cites Eminem’s “Stan,” as the word’s origin.

Back in 2015, Oxford English Dictionary also cited Em’s 2000 song as the inspiration for their addition of “stan” to dictionary. On the track, Em raps from the perspective of a fan named Stan, whose obsession with Eminem leads him to commit suicide. Check the announcement below:
